Junior hockey roundup: Eagles sweep road trip

It was a quiet weekend in the Sault Ste. Marie area for fans of the two Jr. A teams.
The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Soo Thunderbirds were off while the North American Hockey League’s Soo Eagles were on the road in Kalamazoo to take on the K-Wings.
The Eagles returned home with a pair of wins after beating the K-Wings 3-1 on Saturday night and completing the sweep with a 4-1 win on Sunday.
On Saturday night, Sean Murphy scored a pair of goals to pace the Eagles offensively. Jared VanWormer and Alexander Taulien each chipped in with two assists in the win. Alex Robert also scored for the Eagles. Goaltender Tyler Marble stopped 36 shots in the win.
Mike Fazio had the lone goal for the K-Wings in the loss.
In Sunday’s win, Marble made 40 saves while Murphy and VanWormer had a goal and an assist each. Eric Rivard chipped in with a p[air of assists in the win. Michael Lant and Brandon Adams also scored for the Eagles.
Marcus Due-Noje stopped 34 shots for the K-Wings in the loss while Kyle Gattelaro had the lone Kalamazoo goal.
The Eagles return to action this weekend when they host the Janesville Jets at Pullar Stadium.
