Lakers to host CCHA playoff series

Thanks to a weekend split, the Lake Superior State Lakers hockey program will host at least two more Central Collegiate Hockey Association games.
With a 3-0 win over Northern Michigan on Saturday night, the Lakers clinched home ice in the opening round of the CCHA playoffs. Kevin Murdock stopped all 35 shots he faced for the shutout.
Kellan Lain led the way offensively for the Lakers with a goal and an assist in Saturday’s win. Domenic Monardo and Stephen Perfetto also scored for the Lakers.
Northern Michigan goaltender Jared Coreau stopped 32 shots in the loss.
On Friday night, Coreau stole the show, stopping 50 Laker shots as the Wildcats picked up a 3-1 win. Reed Seckel had a goal and two assists for Northern Michigan in the victory. Kyle Follmer chipped in with a pair of assists in the win. Erik Higby had a goal and an assist while Matt Thurber also scored for Northern Michigan.
Bryce Schmitt scored the lone goal for Lake State in the loss. Kevin Kapalka got the start and stopped 36 shots.
With the regular season complete, the final CCHA standings are:

- Bowling Green
- Northern Michigan
- Michigan State
The Lakers will now host Bowling Green in the opening round of the playoffs, which will open up on Friday night at Taffy Abel Arena. The top five teams in the standings earn first-round byes.
