St. Mary's wins city hockey title

The St. Mary’s Knights won the city high school hockey championship on Thursday afternoon thanks to a 5-2 win in game three of the championship series.
Liam Rising had two goals and an assist in the series-clinching win. James Foster, named playoff MVP, added a goal and an assist. Josh Miskiw set up a pair of goals for the Knights. Thomas Pratt and Ryan Calvano also scored in the game three win.
Jay Johnson had a goal and an assist in the loss while Erik Simon had the other goal.
In game two, Foster and Rising had a goal and two assists each for St. Mary’s in a 3-2 win. Tanner Lesage had the other St. Mary’s goal. Aaron Savage and Brendon Devoe scored for Korah in the loss.
In game one, Foster had a goal and an assist as St. Mary’s opened the series with a 3-2 win. Rising added two assists while Lesage and Cody Deschene also scored. Simon had both goals for Korah.
St. Mary’s will now play in the AAA NOSSA tournament, scheduled to open on Mar. 4th in Sudbury.
Korah will play in the AA NOSSA tournament being held in Sault Ste. Marie, which also kicks off on Mar. 4th. As the host city, Sault Ste. Marie will have a second representative in the tournament. The CASS Huskies earned that right after beating St. Basil in a one-game playoff after the two teams lost their respective semi-final series’.
