OHL Roundup: Greyhounds get help during night off

As the battle for positioning in the Ontario Hockey League’s Western Conference continues, the Soo Greyhounds got some help on Saturday night as two teams they’re battling with lost games.

In Plymouth, Alex Nedeljkovic stopped all 20 shots he faced as the Plymouth Whalers blanked the Sarnia Sting 4-0. Rickard Rakell, Mitchell Heard, Stefan Noesen and Tom Wilson scored for Plymouth in the win. Sting goaltender Knicholas Dawe stopped 33 shots in the loss. The Sting went into the game tied with the Greyhounds in the standings.

In Barrie, Mathias Niederberger stopped 44 shots as the Barrie Colts beat the Guelph Storm 2-0. The Storm currently sit two points ahead of the Greyhounds in the standings. Steven Beyers and Tyson Fawcett scored for the Colts in the win. Storm goaltender Garret Sparks stopped 33 shots in the loss.

In Owen Sound, Daniel Catenacci scored three goals and set up two more as the Owen Sound Attack beat the Saginaw Spirit 6-2. Holden Cook and Kurtis Gabriel added a goal and an assist each for Owen Sound in the win. Eric Locke scored both goals for Saginaw in the loss.

In Kitchener, Eric Ming’s goal late in the second period held up as the winner as the Kitchener Rangers beat the Sudbury Wolves 3-2. The game featured a pair of goaltenders – Joel Vienneau for Kitchener and Franky Palazzese for Sudbury – facing their former teams after a pre-trade deadline deal between the two clubs. Vienneau stopped 23 shots for Kitchener while Palazzese stopped 38 for Sudbury.

In St. Catharines, Jesse Graham had a goal and two assists as the Niagara IceDogs beat the Kingston Frontenacs 4-1. Brett Ritchie added a pair of goals for the IceDogs while goaltender Christopher Festarini stopped 34 shots. Henri Ikonen had the lone goal for Kingston.

In Belleville, Joseph Cramarossa had a goal and three assists as the Belleville Bulls beat the Peterborough Petes 5-2. Daniil Zharkov and Tyler Graovac each added two goals in the win. Brendan Gaunce chipped in with two assists. Goaltender Malcolm Subban stopped 36 shots. Stephen Pierog scored both goals for Peterborough.
