High school hockey playoffs head into semi-finals

The St. Basil Saints advanced with a two-game sweep of the White Pines Wolverines while the CASS Huskies advanced with a 2-1 series win over Superior Heights.

For St. Basil, Travis Quevillion picked up the opening game shutout as the Saints beat White Pines 5-0. Josh Fisher scored a pair of goals in the win. Dan Biocchi added a goal and an assist. Paolo Bruni and Darryl Ward had the other goals in the series-opening win.

In game two, Ward scored a pair of goals and assisted on another in a 5-2 St. Basil win. Biocchi added a goal and two assists for St. Basil. David Toppan and Tyler Mousseau added a goal and an assist each in the win. Jamie Kamzol assisted on both goals for White Pines. Nick Duplessis and Wes Jones scored for the Wolverines.

In game one between Superior Heights and CASS, Colton Manchulenko scored four times and assisted on another as Superior Heights opened the series with a 5-2 win. Spencer Elsby had the other goal for Superior Heights. Simon Mangone assisted on a pair of goals. Dakota Raven and Brysin Shaw scored for CASS.

In game two, Raven’s late first-period goal held up as the winner in a 2-1 CASS victory. Raven had a goal and an assist. Connor McDougall also had a goal and an assist in the win. Mangone scored the lone goal for Superior Heights.

CASS advanced thanks to a 6-4 win over Superior Heights in game three. CASS scored four times in the third period to pick up the win. Dakota Raven had a goal and two assists for CASS in the win. Tanner Ivison added a pair of goals. Sam Good and Bryce Campbell had a goal and an assist. Brysin Shaw also scored in the win. Connor McDougall assisted on a pair of goals. Colton Manchulenko had a pair of goals and an assist for Superior Heights. Brett Smith and Nathan Elgie also scored in the loss.

The semi-finals will open on Wednesday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre. The early game will see CASS take on St. Mary’s at 6:30 p.m. with St. Basil taking on Korah in the second game at 8 p.m.
