Greyhounds host minor midget showcase

HOUND POWER TO HOST SECOND ANNUAL MINOR MIDGET SHOWCASE

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Dubas announced today that the hockey program will host a Minor Midget Hockey Showcase in Sault Ste. Marie this coming weekend; Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17th.

The event marks the 2nd consecutive year that the Greyhounds have hosted a Minor Midget Showcase event in preparation of the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, presented by State Farm. (The 2013 OHL Priority Selection will be held Saturday, April 6th beginning at 9 a.m., with the Hounds hosted at their Quality Inn Bay Front Draft Headquarters).

One year ago, the Hounds hosted the Thunder Bay Kings and Copper Cliff Redmen in a three game series with both teams taking in two Greyhound contests as well.

This year’s event the field has expanded to four clubs with the Soo Thunder, Nickel City Sons, North Bay Promo Sports Trappers and the Michigan Nationals. The showcase will kick off on Saturday morning and feature six games in total.

Each participating club is comprised of players eligible for the April 6 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

"Our program is always excited to provide Northern Ontario and area hockey players the opportunity to showcase their abilities. Last season and earlier this year we felt that the showcase weekends were an excellent opportunity for these young men to play in front of OHL scouts, and gain some insights into how our Program operates both in terms of academics and hockey development” stated Dubas.

Admission to all six minor midget games is FREE of charge to spectators, and all games will take place at the Essar Centre – Home of the Hounds.

9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.: Nickel City vs. North Bay
11:00 a.m.: SOO GREYHOUNDS (OHL) Pre-Game skate 
12 p.m.: KINGSTON FRONTENACS (OHL) Pre-Game skate 
1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.: Michigan Nationals vs. North Bay
2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.:  Soo Thunder vs. Nickel City 
7:07 p.m.: SOO GREYHOUNDS vs. KINGSTON FRONTENACS (OHL)

Sunday, February 17th
8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.: Nickel City vs. Michigan Nationals
9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.: Soo Thunder vs. North Bay

Tickets for the Hounds vs. Frontenacs can be purchased at the Essar Centre Box Office Friday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
