Greyhounds road trip ends with loss in Oshawa

Sunday, February 10, 2013   by: Brad Coccimiglio

The Soo Greyhounds wrapped up their three-game road trip on Sunday night with a 4-2 loss to the Oshawa Generals at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa in Ontario Hockey League action.

The loss means the Greyhounds now sit third in the OHL’s West Division after the Plymouth Whalers and Sarnia Sting each won earlier in the day. The Greyhounds trail the Whalers by three points for top spot and the Sting by a single point for second.

The Greyhounds sit seventh in the OHL’s Western Conference playoff race.

The win was equally important for the Generals, who are in a battle with the Belleville Bulls for top spot in the East Division. The Generals entered Sunday night trailing the Bulls by four points after the Bulls picked up a win earlier in the day over Ottawa.

For the Generals, Colin Suellentrop’s power play goal in the second period held up as the winner. The veteran defenceman had a goal and an assist for the Generals. Brian Hughes, Boone Jenner and Michael Dal Colle also scored in the win.

Generals goaltender Daniel Altshuller stopped 33 shots in the win.

Brandon Alderson and Nick Cousins scored for the Greyhounds. Goaltender Matt Murray stopped 27 shots.

For the Greyhounds, just 24 hours after Brandon Alderson had his 11-game point streak snapped in Peterborough, defenceman Ryan Sproul had his nine-game point streak ended in Oshawa.

The Greyhounds now return home for a game against the Sarnia Sting at the Essar Centre on Wednesday night. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m.
