OHL Roundup: Shootouts the popular method for Friday wins

The Windsor Spitfires rebounded from a tough 8-2 loss 24 hours earlier to score a 3-2 shootout win over the Soo Greyhounds on Friday night in one of seven games on the Ontario Hockey League schedule.

Alexander Khokhlachev beat Greyhounds goaltender Matt Murray in the shootout to give the Spitfires the win. Remy Giftopoulos and Ben Johnson scored for Windsor in regulation. Jared McCann and Brandon Alderson scored for the Greyhounds.

In Sarnia, Charles Sarault scored the shootout winner as the Sarnia Sting beat the Plymouth Whalers 5-4. Reid Boucher scored a pair of goals in regulation time for the Sting. Nikolay Goldobin added a goal and an assist. Garrett Meurs had two goals and an assist for the Whalers in the loss.

In Kingston, Joseph Blandisi scored the shootout winner as the Ottawa 67’s beat the Kingston Frontenacs 5-4. Nevin Guy and Sean Monahan had a goal and an assist each for the 67’s. Ottawa goaltender Jacob Blair stopped 37 shots in the win. Billy Jenkins had a goal and an assist for Kingston. Cody Alcock chipped in with two assists.

In Kitchener, Ryan Murphy had a goal and two assists to lead the Kitchener Rangers to a 5-1 win over the Erie Otters. Goaltender Joel Vienneau stopped 31 shots in the win. Ben Thomson had a pair of helpers for Kitchener. J.P. Labardo had the lone goal for Erie. Devin Williams stopped 41 shots in the loss.

In Guelph, Brock McGinn’s goal late in the second period held up as the winner as the Guelph Storm beat the Owen Sound Attack 2-1. McGinn finished the night with a pair of goals. Holden Cook scored the lone goal for Owen Sound.

In Mississauga, Nikita Serebryakov stopped 24 shots as the Saginaw Spirit beat the Mississauga Steelheads 3-1. Jimmy Lodge, Brandon Lindberg and Jeremiah Addison scored for Saginaw. Craig Hottot had the lone goal for Mississauga.

In Sudbury, Boone Jenner scored the shootout winner as the Oshawa Generals beat the Sudbury Wolves 3-2. Justice Dundas and Lucas Lessio scored in regulation time for the Generals. Goaltender Franky Palazzese stopped 40 shots for the Wolves in the loss.
