Greyhounds drop trip opener in Saginaw

The Soo Greyhounds opened a string of three road games on Friday night in Saginaw with a 5-3 loss to the Saginaw Spirit.
The Spirit opened up a 4-1 lead through 40 minutes only to see the Greyhounds pull to within one in the third period thanks to goals by Andrew Fritsch and Darnell Nurse.
Brandon Alderson had the other goal for the Greyhounds.
Matt Murray stopped 22 shots before Justin Nichols took over in the third period and stopped five shots the rest of the way.
Eric Locke scored three times and set up two other goals for the Spirit while Garret Ross added a pair of goals and an assist. Jimmy Lodge set up three goals for the Spirit.
Saginaw goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 34 shots in the win.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday in Plymouth.
