Sunday, January 06, 2013   by: Brad Coccimiglio

A three-game road trip wraps up Sunday afternoon for the Soo greyhounds at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston against the Frontenacs.

The Greyhounds will look to get back on track and finish the trip with a winning record after dropping a 6-2 decision in Belleville on Saturday night.

The Greyhounds have yet to face Kingston this season as the Frontenacs make their lone trip north in mid-February but the two clubs find themselves in similar spots in the standings.

The Frontenacs sit eighth in the Ontario Hockey League’s Eastern Conference with a 19-17-2-0 record while the Greyhounds are seventh in the Western Conference with a 20-18-2-0 record.

The Greyhounds sit four points behind the Plymouth Whalers in the standings and hold a five-point lead over the Saginaw Spirit. The Spirit continue to try to hold off the Windsor Spitfires for the final playoff spot in the West, The Spirit currently hold a three-point edge over the Spitfires,

As for the Greyhounds, they enter Sunday’s game as one of the OHL’s hottest teams in their last 10 outings. Despite Saturday’s loss, the Greyhounds are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games. The Sarnia Sting and London Knights are the only other teams to have won at least seven of 10.

The Greyhounds expect to have Jared McCann back in the lineup after he competed at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Quebec where he was a teammate of Kingston’s Roland McKeown on Team Ontario.

Also on the schedule on Sunday in the OHL:

  • Brampton vs. Ottawa at 2 p.m.
  • Mississauga vs. Sudbury at 2 p.m.
  • Niagara vs. Sarnia at 2 p.m.
  • Saginaw vs. Guelph at 4 p.m.

The Greyhounds will return home after Sunday’s contest for a three-game homestand that begins on Wednesday night.
