Gameday Preview: Greyhounds road swing continues in BellevilleSaturday, January 05, 2013 by: Brad Coccimiglio
A three-game East Division road trip continues for the Soo Greyhounds on Saturday night as they make their lone appearance at the Yardmen Arena in Belleville to face the Bulls.
The Greyhounds enter the game winners of six of their last seven games and they face a Bulls team that has just two wins in their last six outings, including back-to-back losses to the Peterborough Petes in a home-and-home series.
The Bulls made a splash early in the day on Saturday as the trade deadline approaches on Jan. 10. The Bulls acquired forward Tyler Graovac from the Ottawa 67’s in exchange for Russian forward Sergey Kuptsov and draft picks.
Whether Graovac will be in the Bulls lineup tonight against the Greyhounds is not confirmed, but the 19-year-old is en route to Belleville and could be available. And it would be a boost to their lineup as well as the deal adds a 20-goal scorer to their lineup for the stretch run.
The Bulls will be without starting goaltender Malcolm Subban, who was a member of Team Canada at the 2013 World Juniors in Ufa, Russia that wrapped up earlier today. Charlie Graham will likely get the start for the Bulls in goal. Graham has started eight consecutive games for the Bulls in Subban’s absence.
The game will be a homecoming for Greyhounds forward Nick Cousins as the Greyhounds leading scorer hails from Belleville.
For the Greyhounds, the game has added importance as two of the teams they are battling for position with in the OHL’s Western Conference are also in action. The Plymouth Whalers host the Guelph Storm while the Saginaw Spirit host the Owen Sound Attack.
The OHL schedule sees six games on Saturday as the Erie Otters host the Sarnia Sting, the London Knights host the Kitchener Rangers and the Barrie Colts host the Ottawa 67’s in the other three games on Saturday.
