Steel City Tournament opens Thursday

SAULT MAJOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

The 2013 Steel City tournament gets underway tomorrow at 6 p.m. with bantam and midget action at all of the local rinks. Over 50 teams will compete in six divisions, including over 25 teams who will be visiting Sault Ste Marie. Of the 50+ teams, 15 will be visiting from Thunder Bay to play in the house league event.

Close to 700 players will be participating in the four-day tournament with the finals being played Sunday afternoon. Current NHL'er Matt D'Agostini is just one player who was a past member of the Root River Rangers in the local AA Midget league who has gone on to play more than 200 plus games in the league for the Montreal Canadians and St Louis Blues.
