Thunderbirds acquire elite forwardMonday, December 03, 2012 by: Brad Coccimiglio
The Soo Thunderbirds added some offensive depth to their lineup on Monday.
The team announced Monday afternoon that they have acquired forward Yan Kalashnikov from the Nipiwan Hawks of the Saskatchewan Junior League.
With the Hawks, Kalashnikov posted 10 points in 20 games. Last season, while with the British Columbia Hockey League's Alberni Valley Bulldogs, the 20-year-old forward had 35 points in 36 games.
"Yan is an elite forward," said Thunderbirds general manager Kevin Cain. "He's a very skilled skater and a proven scorer. We are thrilled that we were fortunate enough to land him."
The Minsk, Belarus native is expected to join the team later this week.
The team also announced on Monday that they have released forward Josh Borgen and defenceman Matt Thomas.

10 points in 20 games, that is very elite as a 20 year old, lol. What a joke. I hear that nugent hopkins is available as well cain. Send another local kid packing so you can pad the stats. That gives them the max 20 years olds. What a joke.

Another one comes in and another Soo kid loses his spot. Cain "Capy" same old. So much for bragging about providing a place for Soo kids to play Jr A.

Way to go MR, CAIN ,were do the Soo boys go nowwww.Every one else has their team picked.,1/2 way through the season you pull this ?Don't tell us its a business like they can with the hounds or NHL.The team was doing well from the start with the Soo boys ,then all of a sudden all these boys from out of town?, Since you started all these changes i noticed a lot of struggling to win,,you lost a lot of fans ,for each Soo boy you got rid of , it probably meant 15 fans for each player (family friends girl friends thier friends etc. )
