Greyhounds drop trip opener

KITCHENER, ONT. – Despite a 39-save performance from goaltender Matt Murray, the Soo Greyhounds opened up a three-game road trip on Friday night with a 3-1 loss to the Kitchener Rangers.

KITCHENER, ONT. – Despite a 39-save performance from goaltender Matt Murray, the Soo Greyhounds opened up a three-game road trip on Friday night with a 3-1 loss to the Kitchener Rangers.

Ben Thomson and Ryan Murphy scored just over three minutes apart late in the second period to help the Rangers open a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame. In the third, Matt Puempel scored a power play marker to increase the lead to 3-0 lead late.

Murphy and Thomson finished the night with a goal and an assist each in the win for the Rangers while goaltender John Gibson stopped 21 shots.

Dylan Staples got the Greyhounds on the board in the final minutes of the third with a power play goal.

The Greyhounds continue their three-game trip on Saturday night in Owen Sound against the Attack.
