High school recap: football finals set, girls basketball winding down

The championship games for both junior and senior high school football are set.
St. Basil and St. Mary’s will meet in the senior final while Superior Heights and Korah will face off in the junior final.
In senior football, St. Basil advanced with a 49-0 win over Korah. Andrew Paluzzi caught a pair of touchdown passes (14- and 20-yards) from quarterback JP Stefanizzi, while David Toppan also caught two touchdown passes (24- and 23-yards). Aiden MacLeod caught a 25-yard touchdown pass as well in the win. Mitchell Mazzuca scored the other two St. Basil touchdowns on runs of three and 53 yards.
In the other senior semi-final, St. Mary’s got a single point from Brandon Vernelli in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to beat Superior Heights 8-7. Dylan Hebert had the touchdown for St. Mary’s scoring on a three-yard run. Stevan Hiiemaa ran for a three-yard touchdown for Superior Heights.
The senior final is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night.
In the junior final, Superior Heights and Korah will meet on Saturday afternoon. Superior Heights beat St. Basil 46-7 in one semi-final while Korah beat St. Basil 14-13 in the other semi-final.
Girls basketball is also wrapping up regular season action this week, including games in both junior and senior divisions tonight as Korah takes on St. Basil while Superior Heights and White Pines face off.
Wednesday night will see St. Basil and Superior Heights meet while St. Mary’s will take on Korah.
The regular season wraps up on Thursday night as Korah faces Superior Heights while St. Mary’s meets White Pines.

In the senior division the standings are:
- St. Mary’s (9-1)
- St. Basil (6-4)
