North Stars take home tournament championship in London

The North Stars opened the tournament with a 7-2 win over Ajax-Pickering. Matt Pinder had two goals and an assist in the win while Jaron Rowe added a goal and two assists. Devin Shell chipped in with a pair of goals in the win while Ryan Vendramin added a goal and an assist. Jaren Bellini and Brandon Grandinetti had two assists each while Nick Trecroce also scored in the win.
In game two against Halton, Jacob Kment got the shutout as the North Stars picked up a 1-0 win. Matthew Mitchell had the lone goal for the North Stars.
The North Stars opened day two with a 6-1 win over Ottawa Valley. Vendramin had a goal and two assists while Mitchell had a pair of goals. Pinder, Bellini and Trecroce also scored in the win.
The North Stars then capped of the round robin with a 3-3 tie against the London Jr. Knights. Pinder had a pair of goals while Vendramin had three assists. Bellini added two assists while Shell had the other goal. With the tie, the North Stars finished in top spot and earned a semi-final berth against the Vaughan Kings.
In the semi-final on Sunday morning, Rowe scored three times and assisted on another goal to lead the North Stars to a 5-1 win over Vaughan. Anthony Stefano chipped in with three assists. Nathan Hebert and Kaelan O’Flynn also scored in the win.
In the championship, the North Stars face the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves in an all-Great North Midget League final. The Wolves beat London in the other semi-final. In the final, Jack MacLeod scored the winner as the North Stars beat Sudbury 3-2. Stefano and Bellini also scored in the win.
The North Stars return to GNML action on Oct. 20 when they take on Sudbury in a game that has been moved to Little Current.
