Eagles sweep homestand over Ironmen

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. – After going 0-3-1 to start the North American Hockey League season at the NAHL's season-opening showcase, the Soo Eagles have reeled off four wins in five games.
The Eagles improved to 4-4-1 thanks to a two-game sweep of the Jamestown Ironmen over the weekend. The Eagles scored a 4-3 overtime victory on Friday night before completing the sweep on Saturday with a 6-2 win.
Alex Taulien scored at 3:40 of overtime in Friday night’s win, completing a comeback that saw the Eagles score twice in the final six minutes of the third period to erase a 3-1 Jamestown lead. Michael Covach tied the game for the Eagles with just 10 seconds remaining in regulation time.
Covach finished the night with a pair of goals for the Eagles while Michael Lant also scored in the win. Goaltender Tyler Marble stopped 42 shots in the victory, including four in overtime.
Evan Ritt had a goal and two assists for Jamestown in Friday’s loss while Daniel Cesarz had a goal and an assist. Dylan Zinc also scored for the Ironmen. Jamestown goaltender Tim Shaughnessy stopped 38 shots.
On Saturday, Eric Rivard had a goal and two assists while Taulien added a pair of goals. Jared VanWarmer and Kyle Loridon had two assists each. Covach, Layne Martin and Jake Peacock also scored for the Eagles while Marble stopped 32 shots.
Ryan Urso and Victor Johansson scored for the Ironman.
The Eagles are on the road for two games at Port Huron beginning on Friday night before returning home to face Johnstown on Oct. 12.
