SARNIA, ONT. – It’s not something they want to make a habit but the Soo Greyhounds have shown a knack for coming back from two-goal deficits early on in the Ontario Hockey League season.

After doing so twice in a pair of home games last weekend to open the season, which resulted in a win and a loss, the Greyhounds were at it again on Friday night as they shocked the Sarnia Sting by erasing a 3-1 Sting lead in the third period to beat Sarnia 4-3.

Michael Schumacher’s second goal of the game with 1:37 remaining in regulation time lifted the Greyhounds to the win, which improved the locals to 2-1-0-0 to start the season.

Netminder Matt Murray was stellar again in goal for the Greyhounds, stopping 39 Sting shots in the victory. The game also marked the third straight game the Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick had stopped 30+ shots.

Along with Schumacher’s two goals, Nick Cousins chipped in with a goal and an assist in the win while Andrew Fritsch also scored. Cousins and Fritsch scored 30 seconds apart early in the third period to erase a 3-1 Sarnia lead and set the stage for Schumacher’s game-winner late.

Sarnia goaltender JP Anderson stopped 43 Greyhounds shots in the loss while Craig Duininck, Anthony DeAngelo and Alex Galchenyuk scored for the Sting.

The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday night in Saginaw.
