Eagles split first homestand, take two of three on weekend

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. – The Soo (Mich.) Eagles played their first home games as members of the North American Hockey League over the weekend.
The Eagles split a pair of games at Pullar Stadium against the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings before going on the road and beating the Michigan Warriors on Sunday evening.
On home ice, the Eagles picked up a 4-2 win over the K-Wings in Friday’s home opener. Goaltender Tyler Marble stopped 46 shots in the win while the Eagles saw four different players chip in with goals as Michael Lant, Pat Gazzillo, Gavin Burbach and Eric Rivard all scored. Hunter Long chipped in with two assists for the Eagles. Luc Boby had both goals for Kalamazoo while Nolan Culver assisted on both. K-Wings goaltender Alex Okicki stopped 35 shots.
On Saturday, Boby scored three times to lead the K-Wings to a 6-4 win over the Eagles. Josh Dangel added a goal and two assists while Sean Campbell and Davis Dekorte also scored. Alex Robert, Mike Sabatini, Denver Pierce and Roman Pfennings scored for the Eagles in the loss.
On Sunday, the Eagles got a 41-save performance from Marble in a 3-2 win over the Warriors. Rivard and Jared VanWormer had a goal and an assist each in the win while Alexander Taulien set up two goals. Nathan Harries also scored for the Eagles, who improved to 2-4-1 with the weekend wins.
Next up for the Eagles is a pair of home games against the Jamestown Ironmen on Friday and Saturday nights. Start time for both games at Pullar Stadium is 7:30 p.m.
