Pee Wee, Bantam Greyhounds open season

Soo Today received the following notes from the AAA Pee Wee Greyhounds as well as the AAA Minor Bantam Greyhounds teams as both teams were in action over the weekend.

The Vanmark Sault Jr Greyhounds PeeWee Minor AAA reps had a very strong showing at the Northern Ontario Hockey League PeeWee Minor AAA Showcase in North Bay this weekend.
In Friday action, the Greyhounds defeated the Sudbury Jr. Wolves 4-2. They went on to beat Timmins North Stars 5-2 and then tied Nickel City 4-4 on Saturday. The Junior Greyhounds wrapped up the showcase on Sunday defeating the North Bay Trappers 4-2, and coming away with a total of seven points in their league opener.
Their next action is this coming weekend when the Junior Greyhounds travel to London to compete in the London Jr. Knights AAA Early Bird tournament.

The Algoma Industrial Soo Greyhounds AAA bantam minor hockey team opened their regular season over the past weekend by playing in their league showcase, earning five of a possible eight points on the weekend.
In game one versus North Bay the Soo gave up a lead to lose 3-2 to a team that would end up going undefeated on the weekend. Goals for the Soo went to Mark Tassone and Dylan Gauthier while assists were awarded to Lucas Stefano (two), Holden Brock and Nolan Makkonen. Matt Reid played well in goal in the loss.
In game two, the Soo team defeated Timmins 9-0 with goals going to Tassone (three), Holden Brock (two), Stefano, Nicholas Smith, Zachary Taylor and Steven Khull. Assists went to Tassone (two), Taylor (two), Brock (two), Stefano, Gage Stephney, Justin Ryyppo, Dyllon Anderson, Daniel Mills and Darrell Baker. Garrett Boyonoski got the shutout in the win.
The third game was a tighter-checking game that saw the Soo win 3-0 over Sudbury. Goals were scored by Khull, Tassone and Taylor with assists being earned by Baker, Stephney, Stefano, Makkonenand Brock. Reid earned the shutout in the win.
The fourth, and final, game of the weekend saw the Soo team trade goals with Nickel City to a 3-3 tie. Boyonoski was in net for the tie. Soo goals were scored by Stefano, Tassone and Brock while assisted went to Stefano (two), Makkonen, Brock, Khull and Tassone
The weekend proved to be a bench mark for the team.
“We know where we want to be, and continued hard work will get us there” stated Coach Don Gagnon, when asked about the weekend.
