EEC Midget 'AA' Wildcats Eliminated in Stoney Creek Quarter-Finals
The Sault's Earth Energy Concepts Wildcats opened their hockey season this past weekend playing five games at the prestigious Stoney Creek Showcase Tournament. The Wildcats advanced to Sunday's quarterfinals of the forty-team tournament but were eliminated following a 3-1 loss to the North Bay Ice Bolts. Vanessa Rota had the lone Sault goal in the contest.
Jessica Orazietti and Rota each scored goals while Aleisha Labbe had a shutout in a 2-0 victory over the Pennsylvania Lady Quakers to advance to Sunday's elimination round.
In earlier round robin action Lydia Murray had the lone goal in a 1-1 tie with the Oakville Hornets. Lauren Rimmer, Jenna Mitchell, and Rota supplied the offense and Labbe earned the shutout in a 3-0 win over the Ohio Flames following a 4-0 setback to the hometown and eventual tournament champion Stoney Creek Sabres.
Next action for the Sault squad will be the weekend of September 28-30th when they travel to Sudbury for the inaugural Wolf Howl Tournament.
