Sault Civics U16 Fusion brought home the gold in the Michigan Soccer Classic, Labour Day Tournament in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
In Saturday's contests, the Fusion beat the Sterling Heights Gators SC and the host team Gladiators FC by 2-1 scores. Maddie Melisek opened the scoring in the first game and Riley Turbide got the winner while Stephanie Cain and Stephanie Mannarino scored in a hard fought afternoon win.
On Sunday, the Fusion lost to the Fraser Mi. Flash 1-0 and met the same team in the final winning 1-0. In the final, Turbide got the championship goal in the first half and the Fusion hung on for the victory in the second half, backed by a strong defensive effort and the shutout goaltending of Samantha Giuliani.
Fusion head coach Derek Seaton said “The girls have played hard all year and finally got the results they deserve. The coaching staff and parents are very proud of these young ladies.”
