Nurse named to Canadian U18 team

Soo Greyhounds defenceman Darnell Nurse was named to the Canadian Under-18 team that will compete in the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, which opens Aug. 13 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.
Nurse, who will be entering his second season with the Greyhounds in the fall, was among seven Ontario Hockey League players named to the 22-man roster.
Joining Nurse from the OHL include defencemen Chris Bigras (Owen Sound) and Jordan Subban (Belleville) along with forwards Max Domi (London), Ryan Kujawinski (Kingston), Bo Horvat (London) and Nick Ritchie (Peterborough).
Eric Comrie of the Western League’s Tri-City Americans and Zachary Fucale of the Quebec League’s Halifax Mooseheads are the goaltenders heading into the tournament.
Rounding out the defencemen are Madison Bowey (Kelowna – WHL), Shea Theodore (Seattle – WHL), Josh Morrissey (Prince Albert – WHL) and Kyle Doetzel (Red Deer – WHL).
The rest of the forwards include: Anthony Duclair (Quebec – QMJHL), Yan-Pavel Laplante (P.E.I. – QMJHL), Nic Petan (Portland – WHL), Morgan Klimchuk (Regina – WHL), Jeremy Gregoire (Chicoutimi – QMJHL), Nathan MacKinnon (Halifax – QMJHL), Sam Reinhart (Kootenay – WHL), Curtis Lazar (Edmonton – WHL) and Jonathan Drouin (Halifax – QMJHL).
Canada opens the six-day tournament on Aug. 13 against Switzerland. On day two, Canada faces Sweden before wrapping up the round robin against Slovakia.
