U14 Civics Girls Earn Tie in Western League Action
The Sault Civics Surge U14 Girls finished WOYSL league play with a tie and a loss in two games against Sarnia this weekend.
Saturday night at Tom Tipton field, the Surge scored two second half goals to erase a 2-0 halftime deficit. Emily Calibani scored both Sault goals and currently leads WOYSL's U14 league in scoring. Megan Girardi made several key saves in goal to preserve the tie.
On Sunday, the Surge dropped a 2-0 decision to the Sarnia squad at Strathclair Fields in a rough, hard-fought battle.
Surge Coach Jeff Conley gave his team full marks for Saturday's comeback, but was disappointed with the Sunday outcome.
“Saturday's game was a fantastic back-and-forth battle and I'm proud of the girls for putting two balls behind their keeper in the second half to earn the tie. And Sunday we learned a tough lesson about playing good teams - you're not going to get many scoring chances, and if you don't capitalize when you do, you won't win. All in all, two tough battles and unfortunately we only walk away with one point.”
With the tie and the loss, the U14 Civics Surge sport a 2-1-5 record in Western Ontario League play.
Next action is in London next weekend for two games against the London Portuguese AC Dragons.
