Record-setting night at Laird

It was a record-setting night at Laird International Raceway on Thursday night.
Corey Furkey set a new qualifying benchmark in the Super Late Model division after running a qualifying time of 13.908 seconds. Unofficially, the previous mark was held by Dave Seabrook. Seabrook set the record with a qualifying time of 13.998 seconds, set during the 2000 racing season at LIR.
Furkey then proceeded to maintain his hold as the quickest driver in the night’s field. Furkey won the 20-lap feature race as well as the 10-lap heat race. Furkey took the lead in the feature from Paul McLean and held on for the win with McLean taking second and Terry McClelland third in the feature. Keith King was second in the heat while Jordan Sims placed third.
Thursday night was also mid-season championship night in three divisions.
Jason Praysner took home the mid-season title in the Factory Stock division thanks to winning the 20-lap feature. Kyle Jarrett took second place while Brad Bibeau was third.
Jamie Fox won both Factory Stock heat races. Jarrett and Bibeau took second and third in the second heat while Praysner took second and Jarrett third in the first heat of the night in the division.
Tristan Anderson took home the Outlaw Modified division mid-season title. Anderson finished ahead of Jordan Sims and Keith King in the 20-lap feature race in the division. Ted Ritchie Jr. won the heat race ahead of Anderson and King.
The Factory Four division saw Mike McCarthy took the mid-season championship. Brent Fewchuk was second while Leila Uhlman placed third in the feature. Sean Sikes and Rebecca Fewchuk took the heat wins in the division.
The Laird Modified division saw Todd Jackson win the 20-lap feature while driving Keenan Spurway’s car for the night. Jackson took the win by a sizeable margin over Dennis Uhlman, who took second. Nick Kozak was third.
A.J. Daniel won the second heat race ahead of Jake Irwin while Uhlman narrowly took third ahead of veteran driver Rick Ellis. Ellis was the heat one winner, ahead of Irwin and Uhlman.
Daniel Bibeau won the Xtreme Four feature race ahead of Jakob Bourdage. Bibeau also won a heat race in the division, as did Dustin Jackson.
