Sweeps the name of the day at Laird

Friday, July 13, 2012   by: Brad Coccimiglio

It was a clean sweep in four divisions at Laird International Raceway as racing returned to regular Thursday night action this week.

The Super Late Model division saw its first multi-feature winner of the season as Corey Furkey took home the checkered flag. Through the first four weeks of the season, the division had four different drivers take home the checkered flag. The win also marked a sweep of the division by Furkey, who also took both heat races.

Veteran Paul McLean had a pair of second-place finishes, in the feature as well as the second heat race and finished third in the first heat while Terry McClelland finished second in the opening heat race and third in the second heat. Chris Furkey finished third in the feature.

In the Xtreme Four division, Daniel Bibeau took advantage of car troubles for division points leader Jakob Bourdage and took home the feature win. Bourdage ran into car problems in the opening heat race and was forced to run Taylor Crockford’s car in the feature, a race Bourdage would not finish. Wes Greco finished second in the feature while sophomore driver Dustin Jackson was third.

Bibeau also won both of the divisional heat races. Greco finished second in heat two while Jackson took second in heat one.

The Factory Four division saw a sweep of its own as Mike McCarthy won all three of the divisional races. The win gave McCarthy his first feature win of the season. Taylor Crockford finished second in both heat races and was poised to finish second in the feature until she spun out on the final lap, which gave second to Jeff Amos. Amos finished third in both heat races.

Veteran driver Nick Kozak was the big winner in the Laird Modified division, taking home the checkered flag in the 35-lap feature. The win came on the heels of a second-place finish to Jake Irwin in the heat race. Irwin would finish fourth in the feature.

Keenan Spurway finished second in the feature, Dennis Uhlman finished second in both races.

The Outlaw Modified division saw Jordan Sims take the checkered flag in the 20-lap feature. Tristan Anderson finished second and Terry McClelland was third. Cody McLean won the lone divisional heat race while Anderson and McClelland finished second and third respectively.

Kyle Jarrett took the feature in the Factory Stock division while also winning the lone heat race in the division on Thursday night. Jamie Fox was second in the feature while Jason Praysner took third.

Praysner was second in the heat race. Brad Bibeau took third in the heat.
