New and familiar faces see victory lane at Laird

Tuesday, July 03, 2012   by: Brad Coccimiglio

Laird International Raceway has seen numerous faces go through victory lane in three weeks at the 1/3-mile track.

The track has seen 13 different feature winners with only three drivers having multiple wins heading into Monday evening. Factory Four driver Tyler Praysner and Facotry Stock driver Kyle Jarrett had three feature wins each heading into action while Laird Modified driver Dennis Uhlman has two.

The trend in the Super Late Model division continued as Keith King made it four different feature winners in four weeks after winning Monday’s 30-lap feature. King built up a sizeable lead and held off Terry McClelland, who swept last week’s action in the division.

Paul McLean won the Super Late Model heat race.

In the Laird Modified division, Uhlman picked up his third feature win of the season by beating out Jake Irwin. Irwin took the checkered flag in the second heat race while a familiar face finished in top spot in the opening heat race as Keenan Spurway won the opening heat. Spurway was set to make his return to Laird three weeks ago but some unsettled issued saw his return pushed back.

Jarrett has been off to a fast start, literally, in the Factory Stock Division. Heading into Monday evening, Jarrett had won the previous three feature races in the Factory Stock division and also had a pair of heat race wins through three weeks.

In the special Canada Day holiday race program, Jarrett opened the night strong by first pacing the Factory Stock field with a qualifying time of 16.061 and then proceeded to win the divisions opening heat race.

In the feature, Jason Praysner ended Jarrett’s season-opening victory run by holding off the former division champion to win the 20-lpa race. It also marked the second time of the night that Praysner was able to beat Jarrett to the finish line as Praysner also finished ahead of Jarrett in the second heat race of the evening.

In the Outlaw Modified division, Cody McLean, in his second week back at Laird, took the feature win and also won the lone Outlaw Modified heat race.

The Xtreme Four division saw its first multi-feature winner as Jakob Bourdage won his second feature of the season, capping off a divisional sweep in the process. Bourdage won the heat race and was also the fast qualifier with a lap time of 16.729. Daniel Bibeau had a pair of second place finishes.

In the Factory Four division, Taylor Crockford took the feature win and ended Tyler Praysner’s season opening run that saw him win the first three features of the season. Eric Brown finished second in the feature while Praysner finished third. Praysner won the heat race, with Crockford finishing second.

Action continues on Thursday night with qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
