HAMILTON, ON – The Sault Sabercats entered the second half of the Ontario Varsity Football League season on Sunday afternoon in Hamilton, looking to end the undefeated run of the Ironmen in the process.
The locals kept the game close but couldn’t come out on top, dropping a 19-14 decision to the Ironmen. The Ironmen move to 5-0 while the Sabercats head into their bye week with a 3-2 record.
Sabercats quarterback Casey Wright completed 19 of 40 pass attempts for 283 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the loss. Colin Booth caught nine passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns for the Sabercats.
Defensively, Patrick McGrath had seven tackles while Esa Pulkkinen had six.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Sabercats after the bye. The locals host Mississauga on July 7 and Essex on July 21 and play Cambridge on the road on July 14. Mississauga and Essex have 3-2 records through five weeks while Cambridge sits at 2-3.
