Civics U12 Girls Red Kick Off the 2012 Season
(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – June 18, 2012): Sault Civics SHOCK U12 Girls Red kicked off the 2012 soccer season with a challenging opening tournament in Michigan this past weekend. Competing in all games against older division teams, the Sault SHOCK put their best foot forward to achieve respectable standings in the Petoskey Summer Invitational Tournament.
Losing their first two games 1-0 and their final game closing in a 0-0 tie, the defensive power of the team pulled out all stops. “The team did very well this tournament. We entered this tournament knowing the girls would compete against the Michigan older division to provide the girls with an extra challenge to ready them for the season ahead. We always want to win but the girls did exceptionally well against the older, more seasoned players,” says Coach Alison Bodnar.
Goalie Emma Hendrie blocked several attempts against the net letting in only two goals and recording a shutout in game 3.
Other team players include: Makenzi Chartrand, Tiffany Davies, Jadyn Deschene, Sabrina Duckstein, Taryn Gazankas, Kara Gruyters, Jessica Howe, Julia Howe, Jenna Nanne, Olivia Orazietti, Destinee Pine, Nicole Pulente, Emily Roberts, Laura Rosso, Emily Scarpino, and Emily Weir. Coaching staff for the team is comprised of Coach Alison Bodnar, Assistant Coach, Jessica Gillespie, Team Trainer, Ryan Mitchell and Team Manager, Allyson Pulente.
The next tournament comes back to back with the team heading to the St. Thomas Soccerfest Tournament this upcoming June 22-23 weekend where it is expected they will compete against teams from the Southern Ontario region.
About the Team
Sault Civics Girls 2000 is a competitive team for girls ages 12 and under. The "Civics" program is designed for players wishing to develop their skills at a more competitive level. This team represents Sault Ste. Marie in their age division in various tournaments both in Canada and the United States. The team has played together since October of 2010.
