The overage situation for the Soo Greyhounds has taken a turn today as potential overage candidate Brett Findlay has been traded to the Peterborough Petes.

Rumours began to surface regarding the deal over the weekend, which sees the Greyhounds acquired a conditional second (2013) and conditional third (2014) round pick from the Petes in return.

The deal was made official on Wednesday afternoon.

The Peterborough Examiner reported that the picks are conditional on Findlay suiting up in one game with the team next season. If he does, the Greyhounds receive a second round pick in 2013 and a third rounder in 2014. The Greyhounds would receive a 15th round pick if Findlay doesn't dress with the Petes.

The Echo Bay product had 20 goals and 56 points in 68 games with the Greyhounds in 2011-12 after posting 20 goals and 44 points the previous season, his first as a Greyhound.

Findlay was eligible to return to the Greyhounds as an overage for the 2012-13 season.

With the move, the Greyhounds have six players eligible to come back as overage players next winter – goaltender Jack Campbell, defenceman Colin Miller and forwards David Quesnele, Corey Durocher, Brandon Alderson and David Elsner.

Campbell (Dallas), Durocher (Florida) and Elsner (Nashville) are all drafted though Campbell is the lone member of the group to have signed a contract. Reports have surfaced that Elsner has signed a contract with the German-based Landshut Cannibals.

Miller has received professional interest as well.
