Last evening the Sault College Cougars celebrated their successes of the year at the 44th Annual Athletics Awards Night held at the Marconi Club.  The evening saw 200 students, coaches, staff and guests celebrate a great year of accomplishments both in the sport arena and in the classroom.  Highlighted in the year’s accolades were:

  • Cheerleading – Cheer Evolution National Champions
  • Men’s Hockey – CARHA World Cup Champions
  • Women’s Curling – OCAA Champions
  • Men’s Curling – OCAA Champions

Along with these, Men’s Curler Stephane Beaulieu (Sault Ste. Marie) became the third student-athlete in college history to be awarded the CCAA Academic All Canadian Award.

Athletes of the Year – Michelle MacLeod & Nick Dawson
The night culminated with the awarding of the athletes of the year.  On the women’s side, Michelle MacLeod (Iroquois Falls) skip of the Women’s Curling team was awarded the Sault College Female Athlete of the Year – leading the Cougar women to their first OCAA title since 1973.  The Ross Bachert Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to Men’s Curling Skip Nick Dawson (Sault Ste. Marie); he led the Cougars to their first OCAA Championship since 1992.


The Sault College Athletic Department would like to thank all the student-athletes, coaches, sponsors and staff that made for a very successful year both in and out of the classroom.  The following is a complete list of award winners for the night.
