Local teams in OFSAA hunt

The Korah Colts, who won the city NOSSA titles, opened action Thursday afternoon in a game that went right down to the buzzer.

Korah held off a late charge to beat St. Matthew (Orleans, ON) 45-44 in Kingsville in the AA OFSSA event.

Tori Ivey of Korah led all scorers in the game with 20 points.

Korah led 41-29 through three quarters before St. Matthew went on a 15-4 run in the fourth quarter to make the game close before missing a shot at the buzzer.

Brianna Arichara and Brittany Mason had 13 points each to lead St. Matthew.

Korah is back in action on Friday at noon against Kingsville who beat Mother Teresa of London 48-37.

St. Mary’s opened the AAA OFSAA tournament in Windsor with a 58-23 loss to Oakwood Collegiate Institute of Toronto.

Leading 17-7 through one quarter, Oakwood went on a 37-4 run to take a 54-11 lead through three quarters in the win.

Rachel Rising led St. Mary’s with six points in the opener while Oakwood’s Tiffany Reynolds led all scorers in the contest with 17 points.

The Knights wrapped up the day with a 39-29 win over Sacred Heart of Ottawa.

Megan Girardi had eight points for the Knights while Emma Filion added six points.

Andrea Bank led Sacred Heart with eight points.

The Knights are back in action on Friday against the second seed in the tournament, the St. John’s College Eagles.
