Nystedt tournament crowns champions

The Eric Nystedt Memorial Tournament is in the books. Thanks to a 17-point performance from tournament MVP Sam Ivey, the Korah Colts beat the St. Mary’s Knights 54-29 to win the senior division title.

Thanks to a 17-point performance from tournament MVP Sam Ivey, the Korah Colts beat the St. Mary’s Knights 54-29 to win the senior division title.

Isaiah Pedatella had seven points for the Knights in the final.

Korah advanced to the final thanks to a 60-51 win over White Pines in the semi-finals. Tevon Williams and Nick Nicoletta had 14 points each in the semi-final while Matt Gregoire had 13 points for White Pines.

In the other semi-final, St. Mary’s beat Superior Heights 54-21. Noah Creedon had 11 points for St. Mary’s. Andrew O’Brien had 13 points for Superior Heights.

The tournament all-star team consisted of Creedon, Nicoletta, Williams, Pedatella and Lucas Higham of White Pines.

In the junior final, Matt Kment had 13 points as Korah beat White Pines 48-28. Isaac Smithers had 10 points for White Pines.

Korah’s Jordan Robinson-Wright was named the junior MVP while Kment and Jaden Grisdale were named the tournament all-star team. Kaleb Misner and Max Reid of Superior Heights and Jackson Hart of Superior Heights were also named all-stars.

The boys high school basketball schedule resumes on Tuesday night as White Pines hosts St. Mary’s and Superior Heights hosts Korah. Junior games begin at 6 p.m. with senior games set for 7:30 p.m.
