Brad Jacobs’ unbeaten run at the National has come to an end as the round robin wraps up.

Brad Jacobs’ unbeaten run at the National has come to an end as the round robin wraps up.

The Jacobs rink dropped a 7-2 decision to Pat Simmons in the final men’s round robin draw of the tournament, which is the third event in the Grand Slam of Curling.

Simmons opened with the hammer and scored a pair in the opening end to take a lead the Calgary-based rink would never relinquish.

Simmons would take a commanding lead in the fifth end by scoring three to take a 5-1 lead before adding a pair in the seventh end to cap off the victory.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden, entered the game with a 3-0 record, guaranteeing the Sault rink a spot in the playoff round.

With a 3-1 record through the round robin, Jacobs enters the playoff bracket in fifth as all eight teams who qualified for the playoffs finished 3-1.

In Saturday’s quarter-final, Jacobs will face Reid Carruthers of Winnipeg, MB at noon.

The other quarter-final matchups on the men’s side will see Brad Gushue take on Thomas Ulsrud, Glen Howard faces Kevin Koe and Simmons will face John Epping.

The tournament champion will gain an automatic berth in the final event of the grand slam season, the Champions Cup.

The Champions Cup features the winners from the major events in the curling season.
