Girls hockey team needs your help filling their bags

PRIME CUTS NOVICE HOUSE LEAGUE WILDCATS

Team Works Together on Community Service Project to Benefit Soup Kitchen

This is the first year that the Sault Female Hockey Association has a novice division.

One of the league’s new teams, the Prime Cuts Novice House League Wildcats, a group of 12 young girls, ages six to eight, have decided they want to make a difference on and off the ice.

The team is working together on a service project to benefit the Soup Kitchen’s children’s program.

The program serves children ages 5-12 and is need of the following: non-perishable snacks, warm clothing (new or gently-used), craft supplies, and toys (new or gently-used).

The players want to see how many hockey bags they can fill with donated items.

Donations can be dropped off until December 15 at Prime Cuts Meat & Deli, 148 Northern Avenue East; as well as at Realty Executive Algoma Ltd., 85 Northern Avenue East.

The team will also be on-site to collect donations from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 5 at Prime Cuts Meat & Deli.

“At this age, the kids are new to the sport of hockey, and some of them are completely new to organized sports,” says Eddie Plastino, coach. “First, we need to make sure they have fun. Then, it’s important to not only make sure that they learn the skills and rules of the game, but that they also learn sportsmanship and respect. Working on a service project together will teach them teamwork and it will help them realize the positive impact they can have on their community.”
