What we think are "bargains" in the US, are the everyday prices for them, and they complain about the prices they pay. Everything is relative, as Take explains quite well.
As an example... And this is from the mid-90s... I stopped in Lapeer at a restaurant. I had the choice between a hot buffet for $6.50, or ordering off the menu. I chose the buffet.
An older couple came in and sat near me. The server asked them which they were having, and the gentleman said, " I was going to have the buffet, but I see its gone up to six dollars and a half."
What I thought was a bargain was too expensive for them.
