SooToday.com was on the scene of an apparent natural gas leak Saturday morning.

Allard Street was closed at McNabb Street from about 11 a.m. to 12 noon as a result of the apparent leak.

Witnesses at the scene say it appears that a driveway was being plowed by a person driving a pickup truck with a plow attached to the front of the truck.

"It looks like the truck struck a gas meter on a house and sheered it off below the shut off valve," said a witness at the scene. "Crews seem to be having difficulty shutting off the gas."

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services closed access to Allard Street between McNabb Street and the Allard Street entrance to the Pine Plaza since shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

The only entrance to Casa Mia was also blocked off.

SooToday.com will bring you more information as it becomes available.
