“We work in groups for the project and four of us chose to get involved with the Voyageur Trail,” says civil engineering student Jason Hack. “We really enjoyed getting out in the forest for some fresh air and exercise. The VTA is a charitable organization that maintains a hiking trail path across Northern Ontario and depends entirely on volunteers to keep the trail marked and clear of woody debris.”
The students spent time on several weekends in October and November walking the trails, trimming branches and removing tree stems that had fallen across the trail, all with the use of hand tools.
Information about the Voyageur Trail and how you could get involved can be found at www.voyageurtrail.ca.
