Update to collision with pedestrian and City Transit bus from December 8 at Albert Street East and Bruce Street.

Officers from Traffic Services have charged 24 year old Courtney Russell of 310-250 Albert Street East under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of pedestrian disobey don’t walk signal.

Motorists are advised that Albert Street from Dennis Street to Bruce Street is now open to traffic.
 
Bruce Street has also open in both directions.
 
A witness to the incident told SooToday.com it appeared as though the female that was struck by the city bus simply walked out into oncoming traffic.
 
Aside from a broken windshield, damage to the bus was minor and it was driven from the scene.

SooToday.com is currently at the scene of a serious incident at the intersection of Bruce and Albert Streets.

It is reported that a City Transit bus struck a pedestrian resulting in serious injuries.

Motorists are advised that Albert Street is closed from Dennis Street to Bruce Street while police investigate the incident.

The closure has caused significant traffic delays and motorists should avoid the area until the scene is cleared.

The southbound lane on Bruce Street from Wellington Street to Albert Street is also closed at this time.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Traffic Services division is currently investigating a serious motor vehicle - pedestrian collision at Albert Street East at Bruce Street.

At approximately 14:48 hours, officers responded to a pedestrian who was struck by a City Transit bus at that intersection.

A 24-year-old female was transported to the hospital unconscious with unknown head trauma. 

The injuries have been updated from critical to stable at this time. 

The investigation is continuing.
