On Saturday, Sootoday.com was invited for the official unveiling of the new youth mural in front of the Days Inn on Bay Street as part of the Change the World campaign presented by Volunteer Sault Ste. Marie.

“This mural will highlight one of Sault Ste. Marie’s most unique and incredible attributes, its scenic beauty,” said Dave Cartmill, General Manager of the Days Inn.

Created over the course of one day, the 22 youth volunteers worked diligently  and tirelessly using mainly spray paint to create this mural.

The murals concept was developed by local youth artists Mister Tahti (shown) and Jenevieve Bedley who were hired by the Sault Youth Association.

“Our goal was to make something amazing,” said Rob Majury, project coordinator. “But we also wanted to ensure the volunteers had fun and had the opportunity to show their creativity. After all, how often do local youth get to spray paint on private property, legally.”

Change the World: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge is a provincial three-week campaign presented by the Ministry of Citizenship & Immigration with the goal to promote the act of volunteerism amongst high school youth.

Sault Youth Association – Youth Mural Project

Thanks to the generous funding by the Ontario Arts Council, the Sault Youth Association has hired three local youth artists who will work with community partners to beautify ‘eyesores’ in the community.

This will happen over the summer months.

Contact the Sault Youth Association and find out how to donate space to this project and have your property turned into a community landmark. www.saultyouthassociation.com
