MONTREAL - A Quebec cabinet minister says he was taken in by an altered photo of Olympic medal-winning Canadian sisters showing them wearing mittens emblazoned with the Fleur-de-lis.

The original Team Canada photo showed Justine and Chloe Dufour-Lapointe wearing red and white mittens with a maple leaf.

The Bay has been selling the mittens for five years now. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Canadian Olympic Foundation to help support Canadian athletes.

Pierre Duchesne, the province's higher education minister, retweeted an identical photo earlier this week — but this time the Quebec athletes were wearing blue and white mittens with the Fleur-de-lis.

Later, he tweeted that he had been taken in by the picture.

"The perils of photoshop ... I'm also a victim," Duchesne wrote.

The photo remained on his Twitter feed as of Thursday evening. He has more than 27,000 followers.

Justine and Chloe Dufour-Lapointe won gold and silver respectively in the moguls event in Sochi on the weekend.

Some commentators have pointed out that a majority of the medals won by Canadian athletes in Sochi have been won by Quebec-based athletes.

Another photograph that has grabbed a lot of attention is one of Justine Dufour-Lapointe showing her shedding a tear while listening to the Canadian national anthem during her medal ceremony.
