Massive moose could be largest in Yukon
DAWSON CITY, Yn - A hunter may have bagged the biggest bull moose to ever wander the wilds of the Yukon.
Heinz Naef says he brought down an Alaska-Yukon bull moose with a preliminary antler measurement of more than 665 centimetres, or over 21 feet, meaning a standard SUV would easily fit between the span of the rack.
Naef says the rough measurement is more than two-and-a-half centimetres wider than the current record.
Naef, who has been hunting for 30 years, made the kill on Sept. 25.
He says the creature weighed nearly 700 kilograms and it took his entire hunting party of eight people to bring it out of the bush.
Officials from the U.S.-based ranking system Boone and Crockett will travel to Dawson City in a few weeks to officially measure the moose, and determine if it is indeed a world record. (CKRW)
