England comments not meant to offend: Marois
QUEBEC - Quebec Premier Pauline Marois says she didn't mean to offend anyone with comments blaming multiculturalism for social unrest and bombs in Britain.
Marois says her comments were made in the context of a discussion about different models of integration around the world.
She says Quebec needs to come up with its own system, based on its own history and values.
Her statement is the first on the subject since an interview with a Montreal newspaper published Friday.
Marois also says Quebec Liberal Leader Philippe Couillard should encourage more respectful debate about her proposed Charter of Values.
Couillard called on her to apologize on Friday, saying he was astonished when he read the remarks and that they are unworthy of a head of government.
