Canada among most wasteful countries

TORONTO - A prominent think tank says Canada's energy and waste disposal habits are trashing the country's environmental reputation.

The Conference Board of Canada has released a report ranking 17 developed countries on their overall care for the environment.

Canada earned a grade of C, placing it third-last in the overall rankings ahead of only the U.S. and Australia.

The Conference Board says Canada placed below average in nine of the 14 categories it uses to assess performance.

Canada's score was particularly poor on greenhouse gas emissions and municipal waist.

The Conference Board says Canada throws away more garbage per capita than any of the other countries in the report and says over-consumption is a widespread problem.
