Man charged in election attack back in court
MONTREAL - The man charged in Quebec's election-night shooting is expected to find out today whether he is fit to stand trial.
Richard Henry Bain's case returns to court after being delayed because he refused to co-operate with a French-speaking psychiatrist.
Stagehand Denis Blanchette was killed and another worker was wounded in an attack at a downtown club where the Parti Quebecois was celebrating its election victory last September.
Bain faces 16 charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, arson and weapons violations.
Premier Pauline Marois, who was on stage when the attack occurred nearby, told a TV show she believes the shooting was an attempt on her life.
Bain's lawyers say they have not been able to prepare a defence because he has been unwilling to co-operate.
