Bandits hold expensive demolition derby on golf carts

*********************** Golf cart demolition derby

(Blind River, Ont.) - On Sunday night, 18 October, mischievous miscreants damaged several golf carts at the Huron Pines Golf and Country Club.

East Algoma OPP believe that some time after dark persons unknown helped themselves to some joyriding on at least a dozen golf carts from the course.

The bandits had used the carts to drive across fairways, greens and attempts to jump through some of the sand traps.

It is unknown at this time if any permanent damage was done to the grounds.

Estimates thus far are between $12,000 and $20,000 just to the equipment.

Huron Pines had purchased the new carts this year at a cost of approximately $5000 each.

Huron Pines Golf and Country Club have offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
