Napolitano, considered the first woman in Canada to use the battered-woman syndrome defence in a murder case, exclaimed "I just killed a pig," after axing her husband Pietro to death in the bedroom of their James Street home on Easter Sunday, 1911.
He was a violent abuser who had previously slashed his spouse's face, shoulder, chest and arms with a pocket knife and had threatened to kill Angelina unless she became a prostitute to help pay the bills.
Toronto-based Platinum Image Films is due to start filming here next month.
The filmmaker is still trying to find information about Angelina Napolitano's little-known later years.
