Former Mayors James McIntyre (1960-65) and Alexander Harry (1965-68) were on hand this afternoon as the United Way unveiled plans for a fundraising dinner to honour themselves and eight others who've served in the City's top position.

The $100-a-plate dinner will take place on May 15 at the Holiday Inn and will include an audio-visual presentation that will highlight positive contributions to the community over the past 44 years.

We photographed McIntyre and Harry at the Civic Centre this afternoon, in front of their four-decade old official mayoral portraits

Money raised during the event will go to the United Way Endowment Fund.

The dinner will include an auction of items including a .79-carat diamond donated by BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc., owner of the Ekati Mine in Canada's Northwest Territories.

Mayors to be honoured:

James L. McIntyre, 1960-1964 Alexander Harry, 1965-1968 John Rhodes, 1969-1970 Ron Irwin, 1971-1974 Nicholas Trbovich, 1975-1979 Don MacGregor, 1980-1984 Joe Fratesi, 1985-1995 Mike Sanzosti, 1996-1996 Stephen Butland, 1996-2000 John Rowswell, 2000-present

The event will be sponsored by Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., Casino Sault Ste. Marie and the Holiday Inn.
