City police have said nothing officially, but a vehicle was towed Tuesday night from a secured area of the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site where reports earlier today indicated a vehicle might have gone into the water.

The vehicle was removed on a flat-bed truck from part of the canal area near a boat-launching ramp and the tailrace leading to Great Lakes Power.

A large police presence was maintained at the scene for most of yesterday.

Shortly before the towing, fire rescue and ambulance units were summoned to the site for the first time yesterday.

Police kept the public and news media from the scene for most of Tuesday, setting up a mobile command unit near the boat launch and assembling numerous other vehicles nearby.
