A really weird person comes to town

He's won two Stephen Leacock Medals for Humour. More impressively, he also claims to have once won a second-hand Schwinn balloon-tire bike for eating seven submarine sandwiches in 15 minutes.

He's won two Stephen Leacock Medals for Humour.

More impressively, he also claims to have once won a second-hand Schwinn balloon-tire bike for eating seven submarine sandwiches in 15 minutes.

Arthur Black, host of the Weird Wheels and Weird Homes syndicated television shows, and best-known for his Saturday-morning Basic Black program on CBC Radio, will visit the Sault this week.

On Thursday, this truly weird national treasure will speak to students at Algoma University College and Korah Collegiate, and then disappear into the bush for some dog-sledding.

On Friday, he'll surface again to be the special guest at a fundraiser for the Shadows of the Mind Film Festival.

Aside from his successful career as a humourist, Black's official publicity bumph declares him to be a failure at everything else he's ever tried.

"He can't sing. He can't dance. He can't figure out his income tax form. He has to ask small children on the street to stop the alarm beeping on his digital wristwatch."

If you go

Tickets are still available for Friday's fundraiser.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Marconi Hall.

Ticket are $50, available at the Art Gallery of Algoma or by calling Ashley at 256-2226.
